Castle in Solec on the Vistula , erected in the 14th century , is once a powerful stronghold guarding the crossing through the Vistula and protecting the borders of the Kingdom of Poland. It was probably created during the reign of the King of Casimir the Great , as part of a larger defense system to counteract the invasions from the North. Located strategically on the embankment on the river, was built of brick on stone foundations , in the Gothic style .
The castle has been moving from hand to hand for centuries, witnessing numerous historical events, including sieges and wars. During the Swedish Deluge in the 17th century was seriously damaged and despite later attempts to rebuild, gradually fell into ruin . In the 18th century, the castle lost its military significance and was finally abandoned.
