Roman Catholic church Saint Zygmunt

Gothic temple Saint. Zygmunta is one of the most valuable monuments of Sienna and a testimony of the rich history of the town. The parish was erected in 1431 by Dobiesław Oleśnicki, who also initiated the construction of a stone church in 1442. Cardinal Zbigniew Oleśnicki, a bishop of Kraków, made a solemn consecration. During the Swedish invasion, in the 17th century, the temple was seriously damaged. Thanks to the efforts of the priest Szembek, in the 18th century the church was restored and returned to the Catholic community.

Another tragedy took place during World War I - in 1915 the nave vault collapsed. The reconstruction was entrusted to an outstanding architect Oskar Sosnowski; It was completed around 1930, covering the roof with a characteristic monk-mniszka tile from Korwin. After World War II, the temple gained a new interior design, designed by M. Jasiński and made by local craftsmen: K. Kozik, A. Kozik and H. Wlazłowski.

The church of St. Zygmunt is a Gothic building made of burned brick with characteristic cross-rib vaults. The front facade is supported on four slopes. From the presbytery side, there is a tower annex from the mid -16th century, and from the north - a porch. On the southern side of the nave there is a chapel. Ogival windows with plastered glyphs emphasize the raw elegance of Gothic block.
