Legionnaire mausoleum

Legionnaires' mausoleum is one of the most important places of national memory in the Radom region. It commemorates fierce fights of the Polish Legions , which took place on October 22-26, 1914 as part of the so -called Operation Dęblińska . These battles, fought in the region of Laski, Anielin and Brzustowa, consumed life from 200 to 250 soldiers and the Brigades of the Polish Legions, fighting on the right wing of the 46th Austrian Rifle Division. In many places: near Laski, Zagożdżon (today's Pionki), Policzna, Januszno-Bobek and Brzustów. Already in 1918, the Austrian project to create a large war cemetery with a separate Legionnaire quarter appeared, but it was not implemented .

The initiative was again taken at the 1930 Polish Legionnaire Association - Branch in Radom . Within three years, we managed to get the area, obtain all required permits and find sponsors. Ultimately, the mausoleum was erected in place of the greatest severity of the fights - near the railway tracks of the Żytkowice PKP station. The remains of the fallen, including the largest - common grave in Brzustów, were moved here from the distributed graves. It is crowned with a cross and eagle , and his niches have metal plaques with names and nicknames of identified legionnaires .

on the main plate, at the foot of the eagle sitting on the ball, there is eloquent Inscription:

"D.O.M. Here the soldiers of the 1st Legion Brigade fell asleep in the fight for the independence of Poland under Anielin and Laski 22.X.-26.X.1914. "

Place of national memory

The mausoleum in Żytkowice is not only the war cemetery , but also symbol of the victim and courage of legionaries who gave their lives in one of the most important battles in the history of Poland to independence. This is the place of annual patriotic celebrations, visited by the inhabitants of the region, schoolchildren and history enthusiasts.
