Church in the Holy Cross

Church The Holy Cross in Kozienice is one of the oldest and most distinguished temples in the current Diocese of Radom. Her history dates back to the year 1394 , when King Władysław Jagiełło founded the first wooden church here. The temple was destroyed in 1410 as a result of the attack of the troops Prince Witold , which was a dramatic event in local history.

The parish was founded in 1482 , and in 1557 the church was rebuilt and equipped with Zygmunt August , King of Poland. For a short period (until 1559) he belonged to the Wargocin parish, today located in the Diocese of Siedlce. In the year 1657 the church burned back again , and its reconstruction took place in 1677 . Another, wooden temple was established in 1754 , but was demolished in 1869 to give way to the new building.

The current brick church pw. The Holy Cross was erected in the years 1868–1869 thanks to the efforts of the priest Józef Khaun , and consecrated it on October 24, 1869 bishop Józef Michał Juszyński . The temple was renovated in 1887 , and its polychrome was made by the well -known artist Zdzisław Jasiński .

The interior of the church is hidden in valuable monuments, including Two rococo altars , Picture of the Mother of God from the 17th century and painting "Holy Family" , painted by the Wojciech Gerson in 1888 - one of the greatest painters of Polish realism. It is also worth mentioning the church bell from 1564 , which is the oldest metallurgical monument of the temple.
