Józef Piłsudski's bridge
The Józef Piłsudski Bridge in Białobrzegi is an impressive reinforced concrete road bridge on the Pilica River, which is an important element of the region's communication infrastructure and a unique technique monument from the interwar period. It was built in 1932–1936 according to the design of prof. Wacław Straszyński, a well -known Polish designer and engineer. The new construction has replaced an earlier, wooden bridge, which no longer suited the growing communication needs.
The bridge is about 250 meters and consists of four spans , supported in massive pillars, set in the Pilica bodies. At the time of its creation, it was a modern engineering building, which was an expression of the development of the construction technique of the Second Polish Republic. Its reinforced concrete construction ensured durability, and at the same time an elegant form, which is part of the Nadpilice landscape. This damage was aimed at hindering the opponent of crossing and protecting the retreat of Polish troops.
Today the Józef Piłsudski bridge remains not only an important element of road infrastructure, but also a valuable testimony of the history of the region and an example of interwar technical thought. He survived the turbulent times and still serves the inhabitants of Białobrzegi and travelers traveling the route on Pilica.
