Piotrówka stronghold

Piotrówka Grodzisko is the oldest part of Radom - the historical heart of the city, whose beginnings date back to the second half of the 10th century. It was founded as a defensive stronghold guarding the beard on the Mleczna River, at the intersection of important trade routes from Lesser Poland to Mazovia and further - through Lublin - to Ruthenia. At that time, Piotrówka served as a strong administrative and military center, being the seat of the castellan, which protected the borders of the Piast state from yotvings, Lithuanians or Tatars.

Power in Grodzie was initially to the local magnate (so -called Władyka), and over time it became part of the structure of the state power of the Piast. Archaeological finds, including coins from the Lesser Poland Economic Zone, also testify to the importance of the stronghold, which confirm its belonging to the southern economic system of Poland. Today Piotrówka is an area under archaeological protection, willingly visited by lovers of history and walkers - a testimony of early medieval roots of Radom.
