Fara - the church of St. John the Baptist in Radom

Church of St. John the Baptist is one of the oldest and most valuable monuments of Radom, located in the historic district of the Kazimierz city. The temple was most likely erected after 1325, and certainly before the city's location made by King Casimir the Great. This ruler, establishing a new Radom - first on the Średzki law (around 1340–1360), and then in 1364 on Magdeburg law - founded a new parish. Saint. John. The first mention of its existence comes from 1408.

around 1360–1370. The original, one -nave, Gothic red brick church was erected. During the 15th and 16th centuries, the building was successively expanded with side chapels. First, a chapel of the Holy Cross was established, then in 1481 the rosary chapel funded by Jan Warcab - a councilor of Radom. In 1495, Wojciech and Anna Kościenie erected the chapel of St. Anna, known as Kosnowska, and in 1500 Stefan Baryczka - the Baryczkowa chapel.

The temple was of particular importance for the Royal Jagiellonian dynasty. Saint. Kazimierz Jagiellończyk, staying in Radom in the years 1481–1483, often prayed in this church, treating him as his castle temple. In 1495, Prince Fryderyk Jagiellończyk solemnly received a bull here nominating him for cardinal dignity.

The church also enrolled in modern history. On May 22, 1822, God's servant Wanda Malczewska was baptized here, and in 1854 the future outstanding painter Jacek Malczewski. On August 21, 1977, the temple was visited by Cardinal Karol Wojtyła, as reminded of a commemorative plaque. During World War II, on the night of January 24-25, 1941, Bl. Father Kazimierz Grelewski, who died in the German concentration camp in Dachau in 1942.

Church of St. John the Baptist is not only a pearl of Gothic architecture, but also a vivid testimony of the history of Radom, deeply inscribed in the history of the city, Poland and the Catholic Church.
