St. John of Nepomuk
St. John of Nepomuk
Figure of St. John of Nepomuk in Radom was funded in 1752 by Adam Stanisław Grabowski , the then bishop of Warmia, as an expression of religious piety and the need for flood protection. The author of the sculpture was Pierre Coudray , the court sculptor of the king August III Sasa , which gives the work not only religious but also artistic. It is set to the high pedestal with faults and panels , whose front is decorated with arms cartouche with the Maltese cross - a sign of the founder's belonging to the Maltese order. The Latin inscription with the founder's name was also placed on the pedestal, and the figure itself presents the saint in a typical pose - with a finger at the lips, symbolizing the silence and loyalty to the mystery of confession. The inscription:
The pious past was lifted
severe time overthrew
until the Radomian again
