House of Gąski and Esterki

House Gąski and House of Esterka are two unique, historic buildings located at Grodzka Street in the center of Radom, near the city market. Their common history, architecture and today's functions make them one of the most important points on the historical and cultural map of the city.

Historical roots

House Gąski comes from the second half of the 16th century and is older of two buildings. His name comes from the Radom townsman Andrzej Gąski, one of the owners. Initially, he served residential and commercial purposes, constituting an example of the typical architecture of the urban Renaissance era.

Esterka's house was created in the 17th century and according to local tradition, the name of the building refers to the legend of the Esther - Jewish beloved King of Casimir. Although the story is more romantic than historical, it strongly entered the city's culture.

House Gąski represents the Renaissance style with later transformations. The building is one -story, built of brick, with a modest facade and simple windows.

House of Esterka has late -Renaissance and baroque elements . It is distinguished by a larger block, an effective entrance portal and decorative cornices.

Today both buildings belong to the Museum of Jacek Malczewski and perform exhibition and educational functions. They contain exhibitions related to the history of Radom and the region, as well as art and culture.
