Astrobase

Astrobaza in Radom is a unique, educational astronomical institution, which was created on the initiative of local social activists within the Civic Budget 2015. This is a place where everyone - regardless of age - can learn the secrets of the universe, take part in the observations of the sky and develop their passion for exact sciences. The creations of Astrobazy in Radom were born in 2011, when Karol Klimowicz inspired by the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Astrobazs decided to share the idea with the local environment in the forum of Radom investments. The breakthrough came in 2013 with the first edition of the Radom Civic Budget. Karol and Joanna Szymańska submitted the project as a city -wide.

The first attempt ended in sixth place (2454 votes), but in the second edition - thanks to the huge involvement of the inhabitants of the Południe housing estate and numerous social activists - The project collected a record 3698 votes , as far as today remains one of the best results in Radom's history. Huge support also came from teachers and students of Radom schools.

Construction and opening

The construction of Astrobazy was preceded by numerous consultations with experts, including from the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, the University of Zielona Góra and the Polish Society of Astronomy Lovers in Warsaw. The official opening took place on February 1, 2016 .

Activities and meaning

Astrobaza in Radom is a place that is teeming with life - there are:

Night sky shows,

workshops and lectures for children, youth and adults,

Science,

Classes in cooperation with physics and geography teachers.

The facility is equipped with a modern telescope and didactic facilities, thanks to which it is a unique science center in the region, and at the same time the fruit of a bottom -up initiative, which shows how the strength of the local community can change public space.
