Family allotment gardens
Family allotment gardens (ROD) are not only the place of relaxation and plant cultivation - these are important elements of the urban landscape, which perform a number of important ecological, social and spatial functions. In Radom, as in many Polish cities, garden plots are located, among others in the Mleczne River Valley, where they constitute green enclaves in the structure of the urbanized agglomeration.
First of all, they are the space of recreation , intergenerational integration and local communities' activity - a place where residents can rest in the open air, grow vegetables, Flowers and fruits, cultivate gardening passions and build neighborly relationships. ROD-Y also play a very important role in alleviating the effects of climate change -their rich and well-maintained greenery, characterized by high humidity, lowers the air temperature , which is particularly noticeable during hot days. Limiting the concentration of dust and carbon dioxide (CO₂), and thus improving air quality in the city. Their location in river valleys makes them an important element of urban ventilation ducts - air corridors that ensure the ventilation of housing estates and counteract the creation of the so -called "Heat Islands". What's more, plots located on the outskirts of Radom are the natural extension of river valleys ecosystems , enabling migration of wild urban animals , such as hedgehogs, birds, squirrels or amphibians.
